Doctors’ responses

When dealing with skin pigmentation issues like the ones you described, it’s important to identify potential causes such as sun exposure, hormonal changes, or skin conditions. For pigmentation around the mouth, it might be due to sun damage, post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation, or melasma. Protecting your skin from sun exposure is crucial, so consider using a broad-spectrum sunscreen with at least SPF 30 daily, even on cloudy days, to minimize further damage. Addressing pimple scars involves a mix of exfoliation and moisturizing products that can promote skin turnover. Topical treatments like those containing salicylic acid or glycolic acid might help in lightening these scars. For freckles, protective sun measures could prevent them from darkening. However, if minimizing their appearance is a priority, treatments like topical retinoids, which encourage cell turnover, may be beneficial. It’s essential to be patient, as these treatments can take time to show results. If over-the-counter solutions aren’t effective, considering professional treatments such as chemical peels or laser therapy under a dermatologist’s guidance might be advantageous. When applying makeup to even out skin tone, ensuring that your foundation matches your skin’s natural undertone is key to avoid a whitish appearance. Consider consulting with a dermatologist or a skincare specialist; they can provide tailored advice based on your specific skin type and concerns, and make sure the treatments align well with your lifestyle and needs.
