what happens if we apply aloe vera on face - #16297

Dhruv

I am really curious about what happens if we apply aloe vera on face because I've been hearing a lot of mixed opinions lately. A couple weeks ago, my friend suggested I try it for some acne scars and dry patches I have. I thought, why not, right? So, I slathered some pure aloe vera gel on my face before going to bed. The next morning, my skin kinda felt better but also weirdly sticky. I didn't know if that was normal or not. I mean, what happens if we apply aloe vera on face – could it actually improve my skin or was it just a temporary fix? I've read online that it helps with moisturizing and healing, but I'm confused here. My skin looked slightly brighter but didn't feel super smooth like I hoped. Sometimes, I get really skeptical about natural remedies, ya know? What if it’s just hype? Like, is there a downside? And also, how often can I use it? Should I be mixing it with something else? Just wondering what the real deal is with aloe vera and face stuff and if I should keep using it or not. Can somebody help?

Doctors’ responses

Applying aloe vera on your face can indeed have some benefits, especially for conditions like acne scars and dry patches due to its natural moisturizing properties and soothing effects. Aloe vera contains compounds like vitamins, enzymes, and fatty acids, which can help hydrate the skin, potentially making it feel softer and more supple. Its anti-inflammatory properties are also beneficial for calming redness and irritation, which may contribute to a slightly brighter appearance as you’ve noticed. However, some people might find it feels sticky after application, which is pretty common as the gel forms a sort of protective layer on your skin. It’s essential to ensure that you’re using pure aloe vera gel, ideally from the plant itself or verified, quality products, as some commercial versions contain additives that can cause irritation or allergies. In terms of usage frequency, aloe vera is generally safe for daily use unless you experience any irritation. Also, it can be combined with other ingredients like honey or tea tree oil for enhanced benefits, though it’s best to introduce one new element at a time to observe how your skin reacts. As for downsides, while aloe vera is considered safe for most people, some individuals may experience allergic reactions, so it’s a good idea to do a patch test before regular use. If integrating it into your routine doesn’t yield the desired smoothness or if you encounter persistent irritation, you might want to consult with a dermatologist for tailored skincare recommendations, especially given your concerns over natural remedies’ efficacy. In case of any adverse reactions, discontinuing use immediately would be the prudent step. Overall, aloe vera can be a useful addition to your skincare regimen, but like anything, listen to your skin’s response.
