how to use onion oil for hair - #23745

Rashi

I am really confused about how to use onion oil for hair since I keep hearing it works wonders, but I'm not sure about the details. A while back, I started noticing my hair thinning and getting really dull. I wanted some natural remedy since I don't wanna use too many chemicals. A friend suggested using onion oil, said it would help with regrowth and add shine. I bought some onion oil online, but I feel lost now. Should I mix it with a carrier oil? Like coconut or something? Or just apply it straight? Is there a specific way to apply it to get the best results? I tried just massaging it into my scalp the other day, but it felt weird and smelly. I’m worried about how long to leave it in. Overnight sounds too long, right? And then how often do I need to do all this? Every week? Every day? I’ve read different things online and it’s so confusing! Also, do I wash my hair with shampoo after or just rinse with water? Anyone here had success with onion oil? Would love to hear your experiences on how to use onion oil for hair and any tips that helped!

Onion oil has indeed gained popularity as a natural remedy for hair care, and while the scientific evidence is somewhat limited, it’s often used to support hair health. Onion oil is commonly argued to help with hair growth and add shine due to its sulfur content, which is thought to improve blood circulation to hair follicles. However, using it effectively can indeed be a bit confusing at first. Firstly, many people prefer to mix onion oil with a carrier oil, like coconut or olive oil. This can help make the smell more manageable and potentially reduce any scalp irritation. A simple blend might be 2-3 tablespoons of onion oil with 1 tablespoon of the carrier oil, but you can adjust based on personal preference. When applying, gently massage it into your scalp using your fingertips; doing this stimulates the scalp, which can be beneficial for hair health. While you may feel tempted to leave it overnight, starting with about 30 minutes to an hour can be more comfortable and less messy. You can gradually increase the time if you don’t experience any irritation. Aim to apply the treatment once or twice a week. Post-application, it’s best to wash your hair with a mild shampoo to remove the oil thoroughly, as the smell can linger. Condition as usual if you like. Keep an eye on how your scalp and hair react. If you notice any redness, itching, or other irritation, you might want to discontinue use or try a patch test before applying fully. As with any remedy, consistency is key, but patience is required, as hair growth and improvement can take time to show results. If hair loss persists or you’re significantly concerned, it’s always a good idea to consult a healthcare provider to rule out any underlying conditions.
