what does serum do to hair - #23748

Ayush

I am really confused about hair serum and what does serum do to hair. Like, I’ve never used it before and my hair is kinda dry and frizzy lately. Last weekend I went to a friend's wedding and the stylist used some serum before styling my hair and it looked amazing for the whole day! She said it helps with shine and frizz but I’m not sure what does serum do to hair in the long run. My sister swears by it, thinking it’s a miracle, but I want to know if it actually helps with damage too, not just the appearance? I mean, I have split ends and I’m kind of desperate. I tried oils but they make my hair feel heavy. Ugh! I just want something that doesn't weigh it down. Plus, I heard there's different types of serum and I'm worried about picking the wrong one and wasting money, you know? I’m nervous that even if I figure out what does serum do to hair, I might not see any results. Can someone explain how long before I’d notice any difference? Is there a specific way to apply it or am I just going to waste it by doing it wrong?

Hair serums can really help improve the appearance of dry and frizzy hair, making it look smoother and shinier without weighing it down like some oils might. They’re formulated with silicones and other ingredients that create a protective layer around each hair strand, which not only helps in taming frizz and flyaways but also enhances shine. Think of it as a temporary fix – it doesn’t heal your hair like a deep conditioner might, but it does keep it looking good by protecting it from environmental factors and heat styling. For your concerns with split ends, it’s important to know that serums don’t repair these; trimming the split ends will be necessary. But they can temporarily help conceal these imperfections by smoothing out the hair shaft, which might make styling easier. Some serums may contain nourishing ingredients like vitamins and oils that can provide a bit more moisture, but they’re primarily designed to improve the appearance of your hair rather than providing intense repair. You’ll generally notice results immediately after applying it, especially when used before styling. Pick a serum that suits your hair type—if your primary need is managing frizz and you’re worried about weight, look for lightweight, anti-frizz serums. Always apply it to clean, damp hair, focusing on the mid-lengths and ends instead of the scalp to avoid a greasy appearance. Start with a small amount to see how your hair responds, and you can gradually adjust the quantity based on your needs. If you feel concerned about potential waste, many users find that investing in a good-quality serum pays off because a little bit often goes a long way, so the bottle lasts longer than expected. Using it consistently can help protect your hair from further damage, so even though it doesn’t repair existing damage, it can help prevent new issues.
