does reetha make hair dry - #24068

Shivam

I am looking for some advice about this whole reetha thing. A couple of weeks ago, I tried using reetha for my hair because I heard it's great for cleaning and even conditioning sometimes. However, since I’ve started using it, I've been feeling like does reetha make hair dry? My hair usually feels nice and soft, but lately, it’s like straw! I wash my hair like normal, then use reetha as a shampoo, but the texture changed completely. I mean, I didn’t expect my hair to become so dry after just a few uses. The first time, it was awesome, but then, wow, what a difference. I even checked my water, thinking maybe it was that or the weather? Still no clue why this happened. I also read some stuff online that made me worry; some folks say reetha can be too harsh especially if you have color-treated or fine hair. I can’t remember if I added too much or didn’t rinse it right or… I don’t know! Does reetha make hair dry for everyone, or am I the only one having this issue? Should I ditch it or maybe just use it less? Would love to hear your thoughts!

Reetha, also known as soapnut, is indeed a natural cleaning agent that’s been widely used for its benefits in hair care. While many appreciate it for its cleansing properties, it can potentially lead to dryness, particularly because it can strip natural oils from the hair. This effect is more pronounced if one’s hair is naturally dry, fine, or color-treated, as these types can be more sensitive to the cleansing agents in reetha. Overuse or not diluting reetha well enough can intensify this drying effect. If your hair usually feels soft and you suddenly notice it’s like straw after using reetha, it’s possible you’re experiencing these drying effects. When using reetha, ensure to dilute it properly, and consider alternating it with a more moisturizing shampoo. That can help retain some of the natural oils and moisture in your hair.

It’s also important to rinse thoroughly to ensure no residue remains, as this can also cause hair to feel stiffer and less pliable. Additionally, follow up with a good conditioner or a moisturizing hair mask to help counteract dryness. If you’re noticing significant drying, it may be worth reducing the frequency of its use or temporarily stopping it to see if your hair restores its normal texture. Checking other factors like water quality or changes in weather is a good approach too, as they might be contributing factors. However, if none of these adjustments help, discontinuing its use might be the best choice for your hair health. If the problem persists, consulting with a dermatologist or a trichologist could provide further tailored advice.
