can we use serum and oil together on hair - #24099

Kabir

I am really confused about my hair care routine lately. I’ve been dealing with super dry and frizzy hair, and I heard that using oils can help. But then I came across this article talking about how serums can do wonders too. Can we use serum and oil together on hair? Like, I was thinking of putting a few drops of serum after I apply oil to seal in moisture or something. Does that even work? Last week, I tried coconut oil and it was alright, but I feel like it didn’t really change anything. My friend suggested using argan oil, but then she tossed in this idea that using serum afterward would be a game changer. Can we use serum and oil together on hair without making it greasy or too heavy? I mean, what’s the right order here? Should I apply oil first and then serum, or will that just weigh my hair down? Ugh! This whole hair care thing is giving me a headache. I just don’t want my hair to look like a tangled mess! My hair is just so confusing; sometimes I feel like I need a science degree to figure it out! Any advice would be awesome!

Yes, you can definitely use both serum and oil on your hair, and they can work well together if applied properly. Typically, hair oils are great for deeply nourishing and moisturizing the hair, especially if you’re dealing with dryness. They can penetrate the hair shaft to provide lasting hydration. An oil like argan or coconut oil can help to soften and smoothen the hair, reducing frizz and adding shine. When it comes to serums, they usually contain ingredients that help to seal the hair cuticle, add shine, and tackle frizz. They’re generally lighter in consistency compared to oils. If you want to use them both without weighing your hair down, consider applying oil first. This step can be done on damp hair, letting the oil absorb and condition your hair. After the oil has been worked in, you can use a small amount of serum, focusing primarily on the mid-lengths to the ends of the hair. The serum will act as a protective layer, helping lock in the moisture provided by the oil while adding smoothness and shine. Start with just small amounts, as overuse can indeed make your hair feel greasy or heavy. If your hair is super fine, you may need to adjust the quantity to avoid that issue. It’s important to remember that everyone’s hair is different, so what might be a game changer for your friend might still require some tweaking for you. It’s a good idea to test a small section first to see how your hair responds. If it helps, note down what you used and how your hair felt afterward, it can guide adjustments in quantity or frequency next time. If you find your hair is still not reacting well, then it might be worth considering consulting a hair care specialist for tailored advice.
