can we drink mosambi juice during cold - #24585

Arya

I am wondering if we can drink mosambi juice during cold. Last week, I started feeling a bit under the weather with that annoying scratchy throat and some sneezing, you know typical cold stuff. My mom always says to drink lots of fluids when you're sick, and I really love mosambi juice! It’s refreshing and I thought it might help. But, I also heard people mention something about citrus juices not being the best if you're already feeling bad. Like, can we drink mosambi juice during cold, or should I avoid it altogether? I'm also dealing with a bit of congestion, and that makes it hard to tell what helps. On one hand, I love the tangy flavor and it seems hydrating, but on the other, I read mixed things about citrus when you're sick. I’m also concerned if the acidity might irritate my throat more, or if the vitamin C would actually be beneficial. I really don’t want to make it worse. Anyone have thoughts or experience with this? Can we drink mosambi juice during cold? I really need some guidance here!

Doctors' responses

You can generally drink mosambi juice during a cold, and it may actually be beneficial. Mosambi, or sweet lime, juice is rich in vitamin C and antioxidants, which can help support your immune system as it fights off the cold virus. The hydration you get from the juice is also crucial, as staying well hydrated helps thin mucus and can ease a scratchy throat or congestion. While there are some concerns about citrus juices being potentially irritating to the throat, in the case of mosambi juice, its low acidity compared to other citrus fruits makes it a bit gentler. If you find it soothing and enjoy the taste, there’s little reason to avoid it unless you notice personal discomfort. When drinking mosambi juice, try having it at room temperature or slightly warmed, which might feel more comfortable for a sore throat. Just ensure you don’t go overboard, as excessive vitamin C intake can occasionally lead to mild digestive upset. If congestion is a major issue and the juice doesn’t seem beneficial, consider other methods too, like steam inhalation or a saline nasal spray, which can help relieve nasal stuffiness. Monitor how your body responds, though; if drinking mosambi juice seems to exacerbate throat irritation, then perhaps consider switching to non-citrus alternatives like warm herbal teas or broths. If any symptoms worsen significantly or you develop high fever, persistent sore throat, or severe congestion, it may be prudent to contact a healthcare professional as these might indicate something more serious than a regular cold.
