What to do if my blood sugar is high and I'm feeling dizzy after stopping Glucophage XR?

Client_c06b35

I used to have insulin resistance and was taking Glucophage XR 1000 mg (two tablets a day). Once my HOMA-IR reached 1.7, I stopped the medication for two weeks. For the past four days following that two-week break, my blood pressure has been low, and my blood sugar has been very high—my fasting blood sugar registered at 331 mg/dL. I am also feeling extremely dizzy, and the dizziness only goes away temporarily."

It’s important to address these symptoms promptly. First of all, stopping Glucophage XR (Metformin) without medical guidance can lead to complications, especially since your fasting blood sugar level is remarkably high at 331 mg/dL. Such a high level can put you at risk for serious conditions such as hyperglycemic hyperosmolar state or diabetic ketoacidosis, though the latter is less common in Type 2 diabetes. Given your symptoms of dizziness and significantly elevated blood sugar levels, you should seek medical attention immediately. You need a healthcare professional to evaluate your current condition thoroughly. It might be necessary to restart your medication or even adjust your treatment plan. Meanwhile, to manage your symptoms, stay well-hydrated by drinking water, unless a healthcare provider advises otherwise because dehydration can exacerbate high blood sugar levels. Avoid sugary or carbohydrate-heavy foods that could spike your glucose further. Make an urgent appointment with your doctor to discuss your treatment regimen, including whether you need to restart Metformin at the previous dose or potentially shift to an alternative glucose-lowering strategy. They might also want to check your other health markers, such as kidney function, which can be affected by both high blood sugar levels and Metformin use. If you feel weak or are unable to manage walking or staying mobile, it’s essential to visit an emergency department. Remember, these issues need immediate attention from a healthcare provider to prevent complications.
