how much quercetin per day

Karthik

I am getting a bit concerned about my health lately and I want to know how much quercetin per day I should be taking. A couple of weeks ago, I started experiencing these weird allergy symptoms – constant sneezing, itchy eyes, and just feeling kind of run down. My friend mentioned quercetin and how it might help relieve these allergy symptoms, but I don't really know what dosage is effective or safe. I tried looking up stuff online but, honestly, it’s super confusing, and there seems to be a ton of different opinions about how much quercetin per day is the right amount. I've seen ranges from 500mg to 2000mg, depending on who you ask. I thought about asking my doctor, but my appointment is not for a few weeks. Is it better to just start taking a higher dose since my allergies are so bad? I just don’t want to overdo it and end up causing some other issue. Also, do you guys think there’s a specific time of day when taking quercetin is more effective? Like, does it even matter? Sorry if I am rambling, just trying to figure out how much quercetin per day would make sense for someone like me. Would love to hear your thoughts!

Doctors' responses

When it comes to quercetin, an appropriate dose can vary quite a bit depending on individual factors like your health status, any medications you’re on, and how severe your symptoms are. Generally, quercetin is used in the range of 500mg to 1000mg per day divided into two or three doses. It’s key though, to not jump straight to a high dose, especially since you’ve just started this supplement. Starting with a lower dose like 500mg per day and seeing how your body responds might be a safer path. There’s no concrete evidence that a higher dose will be more effective or necessary for everyone. In terms of timing, it usually doesn’t matter too much when you take quercetin, though taking it with meals may help with absorption and possibly reduce any mild stomach upset it might cause. Importantly, it’s critical to keep an eye on any new symptoms or if existing ones worsen. Everyone’s response can differ slightly and if something doesn’t feel right, don’t hesitate to consult with a healthcare provider. They can give you more personalized advice based on your overall heath picture. And should your symptoms include anything severe like difficulty breathing or you’re feeling overwhelmingly unwell, it’s vital you seek medical advice promptly—those could be signs of something beyond typical allergy symptoms. Ultimately, for mild allergy relief, quercetin can be part of the strategy, but it should be balanced with safe practices and expert guidance.
