It may be worth looking beyond the routine blood tests already done. Starting with a thorough physical examination and medical history, several specific tests could help investigate the root cause of your symptoms. Consider asking your healthcare provider about the following: 1) Comprehensive Metabolic Panel (CMP), which might reveal electrolyte imbalances, liver, or kidney issues contributing to fatigue and muscle twitches. 2) Thyroid Function Tests could uncover thyroid dysfunctions like hypothyroidism, which can cause fatigue, mood swings, and muscle issues. 3) Vitamin and Mineral Levels, particularly B12, Vitamin D, and magnesium, as deficiencies here could explain fatigue, muscle twitches, and irritability. 4) Ferritin and Transferrin levels for a deeper dive into iron storage, as standard blood tests may miss subtle iron metabolism issues. Additionally, more specialized tests like an autonomic function test could assess possible dysautonomia if symptoms align with orthostatic hypotension. You might also consider a Celiac Disease Panel, given your gastrointestinal symptoms, as gluten intolerance could account for your range of symptoms. If none of these tests yield insights, a referral to a specialist like a neurologist or endocrinologist could be helpful. Remember, the approach should be comprehensive and patient-centered, aiming to piece together the puzzle of your symptoms carefully. Always discuss these options and any concerns with your doctor to tailor the investigation to your specific situation.
What tests should I undergo for anemia-like symptoms, fatigue, and muscle twitches at 18 years old?
I'm a female, 18 years old When I was younger, up until I was 14, I used to be very athletic. When I was 15, I started experiencing anemia-like symptoms after performing sporty activities (eg running). I would be extremely out of breath, weak, feeling faint with my vision going dark. I started having some gastrointestinal disorders too along with something like orthostatic hypotension. But every blood test I did came out clean, BP, blood count, blood sugar, etc were perfectly fine. I also started experiencing random pains in random parts of my body with varying durations. All these symptoms have continued to this day while getting progressively worse. Now, my muscles twitch randomly too and I have inexplicable fatigue. My appetite has also been getting worse. I often experience mood swings and irritability too. Please what tests should I undergo to find the root cause?
