If your daughter’s cough isn’t improving despite medication, it’s important to reassess the situation because sometimes, treatments might need adjustment. Here are a few things to consider. First, ensure that she is taking the medication exactly as prescribed—missing doses or incorrect frequency can hinder recovery. Also, be aware of any other symptoms that might suggest a more serious condition, like difficulty breathing, high fever, or any chest pain, which would require prompt medical attention. Given that her cough worsens with activity in the afternoon, it might be an indicator of asthma or bronchospasm, especially if it’s paired with wheezing or tightness in the chest. Environmental factors can also play a role. Check if there are any allergens or irritants in her environment, like pollen, dust, or smoke, that might be making her symptoms worse. These can contribute significantly to respiratory issues in children. It could be useful to keep a diary of her symptoms, noting when they happen, any potential triggers, or any activities associated with worsening symptoms. The information can be very helpful for her doctor in refining her treatment plan. If after a few more days there’s no improvement or the symptoms are getting worse, return to the doctor for further evaluation. It’s possible she might need different medication or diagnostic testing, such as a chest X-ray or pulmonary function tests, to identify the issue more clearly.
