How long can I keep growing taller at 21 years old, and is it possible to grow another 5 cm?

MI

Good evening, Doctor. My situation is strange, and I don't understand anything. I'm 21 years and 10 months old. When I was younger, I was shorter than my friends. Around the age of 19 and throughout my 20s, I only grew about 2 centimeters in those two years. I thought my platelets had stopped growing. My height at that time was 169 cm. I started growing taller again at the beginning of my 21st year, with increases of 0.7, sometimes 0.8, and sometimes 0.5 centimeters per month until now. As I approach 22, I've gained a total of 7 centimeters, and my height is now 176 cm. I'm still growing 0.5 centimeters every month. The last time I grew was last month. I'm in my third year of university. All my friends have stopped growing except me. I'm happy with this growth and I want to know until what age this growth can continue?, and can I grow taller 5cm ?

Growth plates, or epiphyseal plates, in long bones are responsible for growth in height during adolescence and typically close after puberty ends. For many people, this closure happens between ages 16 and 20. However, there are always some exceptions; in rare cases, some individuals experience growth into their early 20s. Factors such as genetics and hormone levels could influence this. It seems that you’re experiencing some continued growth, which is less common but not entirely outside the realm of possibility. As for your question if you’ll grow another 5 cm, it depends on whether your growth plates have completely closed. Since you mention gaining 7 centimeters already, and with continued monthly increases, it’s reasonable to cautiously assume some additional growth may occur—but it’s really speculative without knowing the exact status of your growth plates. To assess growth potential and if your future height changes may be possible, an X-ray of your hand could help determine whether your growth plates are still open. You might wish to consult with an endocrinologist, who could provide further insights into growth hormone levels which play a significant role in development. Although very unlikely, if you’re experiencing other symptoms or have concerns, it’s good practice to discuss these with a healthcare provider who can evaluate any unusual growth patterns in context of your overall health.
