With symptoms like yours, postprandial hypotension could be a factor – that’s when blood pressure drops after eating. This happens because the blood flow increases to your digestive system, and if your blood vessels and heart don’t adjust properly, it can lead to low blood pressure. This could align with your symptoms like dizziness, lightheadedness and possibly palpitations. To manage it, consider eating smaller, more frequent meals rather than large ones, and make sure you’re hydrating adequately. Avoid alcohol and consider reducing carbohydrate-heavy meals, as they can sometimes exacerbate the issue. Sitting or lying down can help if you feel symptoms coming on. Medications like fluoxetine might have side effects contributing to dizziness or palpitations, though it’s not a direct cause. It could interact with your IBS if it alters your gastrointestinal function, so track whether your symptoms started around the time you began the medication. For better blood pressure control, keep an eye on salt intake but do not excess – fluids retention can sometimes balance low blood pressure. Given your ongoing symptoms and medication, a thorough check-in with your healthcare provider is advisable to rule out other causes and ensure your treatment plan is still effective. Any sudden or severe symptoms, such as fainting or extreme palpitations, warrant prompt medical evaluation. They can guide tailored interventions, which might include adjusting medication, dietary recommendations, or further testing if needed.
