Sudden and extreme hair loss can be alarming, and there are several factors to consider here. Since you have an oily scalp and dandruff, one possible contributing factor could be seborrheic dermatitis, which can aggravate hair loss due to inflammation. Also, another common cause of hair loss is telogen effluvium, which occurs when stress, nutritional deficiencies, or hormonal changes cause hair follicles to prematurely enter the resting phase. Consider recent changes in your life, such as diet, stress levels, or any new medications you may have started. It’s important to address these underlying causes to mitigate further hair loss. Start by using a medicated anti-dandruff shampoo containing ketoconazole, selenium sulfide, or zinc pyrithione to help manage your dandruff and oily scalp. Use it as directed, often a few times per week, and alternate with a gentle, everyday shampoo. Maintaining a balanced diet rich in vitamins, especially vitamin D, iron, and zinc, can also promote hair health. Supplement these if deficiencies are found, but consult with a healthcare professional prior to starting any supplements. Ensure you’re managing stress through practices like exercise or mindfulness; chronic stress can lead to hair loss. Since your scalp visibility has noticeably increased within a short period, it’s crucial to seek consultation with a dermatologist to rule out serious conditions like alopecia areata or other dermatologic issues. They may perform tests to determine the exact cause of your hair loss and offer appropriate treatments such as topical minoxidil or other interventions. Avoid any harsh chemical treatments or styling techniques that could further weaken your hair. Remember, early intervention is key in managing hair loss effectively, so prioritize contacting a specialist for a tailored plan.
