face gel how to use - #14464

Pari

I am struggling with this new face gel I just bought. The packaging says it's great for hydration and soothing but I'm not really sure how to use it properly to get the best results. I've tried applying it after my regular face wash, but my skin still feels kinda dry, like it just sits on top or something. I usually get dry patches and some redness, especially around my nose and cheeks, and I thought the face gel would help, but I honestly don't notice much change. Should I be using it more or less or mixing it with something else? I heard a friend say that with some face gels, you need to pat it on instead of rubbing which feels kinda weird to me. I also was wondering, do you apply moisturizer after the face gel or just use the gel alone? I feel like I might not be giving it enough time or maybe my routine is off. Can someone who knows how to use face gel fill me in on the right steps or tips? Would love advice on this, feeling a bit lost with it!

Using a face gel correctly can definitely make a difference, especially if you’re dealing with dry patches and redness. Let’s unpack this a bit. First, it sounds like you’re applying the gel after washing your face, which is generally good timing, as your skin is just clean and ready to absorb. However, if your skin feels tight or dry right after washing, it might help to apply the gel when your skin is still slightly damp. This can enhance absorption and hydration, since water can help carry the gel’s ingredients deeper into the skin. Just gently pat your face dry so it’s not dripping wet, but still has some moisture. The technique is important too. Gently patting in the gel, as opposed to rubbing, can indeed help with better absorption and minimize potential irritation, especially if you have sensitive areas like around your nose and cheeks. It may feel unusual, but patting helps the gel settle onto and into the skin without unnecessary friction. Regarding whether to layer a moisturizer, it can be beneficial, particularly if your skin tends to be on the drier side. Think of the gel as delivering hydration and the moisturizer as sealing that hydration in. The gel typically addresses hydration needs, but a cream moisturizer can provide an additional occlusive layer that helps prevent water loss. Look for a moisturizer that’s non-comedogenic and suited for sensitive skin to avoid clogging pores or exacerbating redness. If you’re still not seeing results, consider checking the ingredients of the gel. Some gels contain humectants like hyaluronic acid, which draw moisture into the skin, but need extra moisture around to work effectively. Mixing the gel with a few drops of a gentle, hydrating serum or essence can increase effectiveness if it’s not overly formulated. If dryness and irritation persist, it might be worth reassessing your entire skincare routine or having a chat with a dermatologist, as sometimes underlying issues need tailored approaches or different products feel free to switch things up gradually, observing how your skin reacts before making multiple changes at once.
