can aloe vera remove scars - #14803
I am really struggling with some scars I got when I was younger from acne and a few other things. I’ve read a lot lately about how can aloe vera remove scars, like a friend mentioned it really helped her skin. I mean, she swears by it! Anyway, I started using aloe vera gel directly from the plant a couple of weeks ago on my scars, but I haven’t seen huge changes yet. I really wanna know, can aloe vera remove scars or is it more of a myth? I also heard you need to be consistent with it, but what does that even mean? Like, how often should I apply it? And are there any specific types of aloe vera that work best, or can I just use what I get from the potted plant in my kitchen? I guess I’m just worried it won’t work and I’ll be stuck with these scars forever. Also, can aloe vera remove scars from all types of skin or does it vary based on skin types? I’m just looking for some clarity and maybe some hope that this could actually do something for me. Thanks in advance!

Doctors’ responses
Aloe vera’s reputation for skin healing comes largely from its moisturizing and soothing properties. However, it might not be entirely accurate to say aloe vera can actually “remove” scars. Aloe vera contains compounds that could help in mildly improving the appearance of scars over time by keeping the skin moisturized and reducing inflammation. It’s worth noting that while some people, like your friend, see visible improvements, this isn’t universally experienced. Scar type, age, and individual skin characteristics can affect results. Consistency usually means applying it daily, sometimes even twice a day; try this for at least a few weeks to months to see any potential benefits.
Using fresh aloe vera gel from the plant is generally fine, as long as you’re not allergic. The type of aloe doesn’t need to be specific, but make sure your plant is indeed aloe vera, not a decorative aloe that isn’t meant for skin use. Test a small area first to check for any negative reactions.
Remember though, aloe vera might not be effective for deeper or older scars such as those from severe acne. Skin types vary significantly, so while some experience positive changes, others see little to none.
If you’re worried, considering professional advice could be beneficial. Dermatologists offer treatments like chemical peels, laser therapy, or microneedling that have more substantial evidence backing their effectiveness in improving scar appearance. These are worth exploring if you’ve been disappointed by over-the-counter treatments.
