blemishes treatment - #16461

Pihu

I am really struggling with this skin issue that I can’t seem to get rid of. Blemishes have been popping up on my face like crazy, and it’s super frustrating because I thought I was past that stage of my life. This began a few months ago when I started a new skincare routine, and I was excited, but instead of glowing skin, I just got blemishes everywhere. I even went to a dermatologist who recommended some cream for the blemishes treatment, but after a week, my skin felt irritated and red, so I stopped using it. I tried looking up natural remedies for blemishes treatment online, and I started using tea tree oil, but that didn’t really help either. It's like I’m stuck in this cycle of trying to treat the blemishes only to end up with more of them. I just need some advice on what actually works for blemishes treatment! Is there a specific type of product or treatment you guys would recommend, or should I just head back to the doc and ask for something stronger? Ugh, this is so stressful! I know I should be more patient, but I just want clear skin again!

Doctors’ responses

When faced with persistent blemishes, finding a solution often involves re-evaluating the routine and understanding potential culprits. It sounds like your new skincare routine might be contributing, possibly due to ingredients that aren’t quite right for your skin type. Sometimes, overdoing it with too many active ingredients can lead to irritation, which paradoxically causes more breakouts. Considering your skin felt irritated with the cream from your dermatologist, it’s crucial to assess if it included ingredients such as retinoids or strong acids which, while effective, can be harsh if skin sensitivity is an issue. Before trying anything stronger, perhaps revisit the basics: a gentle, non-comedogenic cleanser, a simple moisturizer, and a non-irritating sunscreen. Look for products labeled “non-comedogenic” or “for sensitive skin” to minimize the risk of clogging pores or causing irritation. When trying any new product, start slowly to see how your skin reacts. If you’re leaning towards natural remedies, tea tree oil can be helpful, but it should be diluted to avoid new irritations. However, these options aren’t one-size-fits-all and what works can vary greatly. If self-treatment isn’t yielding results, a follow-up with your dermatologist might indeed be warranted. They could recommend or prescribe alternative treatments like topical antibiotics or different formulations, considering whatever side effects you experienced previously. Don’t hesitate to bring up your concerns about sensitivity so they can fine-tune your treatment to suit your skin. Ultimately, diligent yet gentle care, patience, and professional guidance should help see improvements.
