black hair home remedy - #16609

Muhammad

I am kinda freaking out here because my hair is thinning and losing its natural shine and, like, I really wanna keep my black hair healthy, you know? I’ve been using all these products and they’re super expensive, but nothing seems to work. A friend told me about this black hair home remedy that involves mixing some oils and maybe a few herbs, but I have no idea where to start! The other day I tried a homemade coconut oil treatment, which felt nice but didn’t really change much. I’ve also read stuff about using onion juice? Sounds crazy, right?! But, I mean, if it could help my black hair come back to life, I’d try it. I feel kinda lost and, honestly, my confidence is taking a hit. Has anyone here had success with a black hair home remedy? What do you think works best? Is there a specific recipe or method people swear by? I’m all ears for any tips. Just need something simple and effective! Thanks in advance!

Doctors’ responses

When tackling hair thinning and lackluster shine, focusing on overall hair health and scalp care can be really beneficial. While exploring home remedies, it’s important to prioritize good hair care habits too. For healthy black hair, focus on a couple of things: nourishing the scalp and maintaining moisture. A common suggestion you might hear is a mix of oils like coconut oil, castor oil, or olive oil. These oils are rich in nutrients and can help moisturize and strengthen your hair. For instance, you could start by warming 2-3 tablespoons of your chosen oil, massaging it into your scalp gently, and leaving it on for about 30 minutes before washing your hair with a mild shampoo. This helps in increasing blood circulation and provides essential nutrients to the hair follicles.

You mentioned onion juice, and it does have some anecdotal support. Onion juice contains sulfur, which might promote hair growth, but it isn’t everyone’s cup of tea because of the smell and irritation it could cause. If you decide to try it, you can blend one onion, extract the juice, apply it to your scalp for about 15-20 minutes, then wash it out thoroughly.

Another simple home remedy could be using aloe vera—it’s known for soothing irritated scalps and conditioning hair. Applying fresh aloe vera gel directly to your scalp 30 minutes before washing can be quite beneficial. Remember, while these home remedies may help support hair health, it’s also key to look at your diet and ensure you’re getting enough vitamins and minerals, particularly iron, Vitamin D, and B-vitamins, which are crucial for hair health. If you haven’t already, it might also be worth consulting with a dermatologist or trichologist to rule out any underlying conditions like hormonal imbalances or nutritional deficiencies that could be contributing to your hair thinning.
