home remedy for dark circle - #16716

Advait

I am struggling with these awful dark circles under my eyes, ugh! It feels like no matter how much sleep I get, they just won’t go away. A few weeks ago, I started noticing them after a particularly stressful week at work—lots of late nights and early mornings. I thought maybe it was just tiredness, but even now, they’re still hanging around. I heard about a home remedy for dark circle that involves cold tea bags and cucumber slices, but does that stuff really work? And like, what else can I do? I tried some over-the-counter creams, but they didn’t help much and honestly, were a bit pricey for what they did. I also heard about using almond oil, but is that legit too? I mean, I want to avoid harsh chemicals, you know? Funny enough, my friend swears by a home remedy for dark circle that includes just coconut oil. Should I stick to one remedy or mix and match? Anyone have success with a home remedy for dark circle that actually worked? I'm getting a bit tired of looking like a raccoon, and it’s really affecting my confidence, especially in Zoom calls, lol. Any tips or suggestions would be sooo appreciated!

Doctors’ responses

Dark circles under the eyes can be frustrating and they often result from a combination of factors like genetics, lifestyle, and skin type. It sounds like your recent schedule might have compounded the issue. Home remedies such as cold tea bags and cucumber slices can help temporarily because the cool temperature reduces swelling and can lessen the appearance of dark circles. Tea contains caffeine and antioxidants that may also help to boost circulation and reduce discoloration. Steep two tea bags, chill them in the refrigerator, and then place them over your eyes for about 10-15 minutes a day.

Cucumber slices work similarly due to their hydrating and cooling properties — just slice and chill them before applying for the same amount of time. As for almond oil, it is known for its moisturizing properties and can improve skin health if used consistently over time. You can gently massage a few drops under your eyes before you go to bed. Coconut oil is also quite popular for similar reasons, being rich in fatty acids that hydrate and nourish the skin.

While these remedies can help to some extent, they might not significantly affect dark circles if the underlying cause isn’t addressed, so maintaining a regular, restful sleep schedule, managing stress, staying hydrated, and consuming a nutrient-rich diet are important steps. If you find stubborn dark circles persisting despite trying these methods, it might be worth consulting with a dermatologist since there could be other underlying causes like allergies or pigmentation differences. Remember, while combinations of remedies are safe generally, it’s always best to test each ingredient individually to ensure your skin doesn’t react poorly.
