home made facial pack - #18467

Avni

I am really confused about this home made facial pack stuff. A couple weeks ago I noticed my skin looking kinda dull and thought why not try something natural, right? So, I googled “home made facial pack” and found a ton of recipes. I ended up mixing some honey, yogurt, and turmeric together. It was kinda fun, but I'm not sure if I did it right. First, I left it on for too long, like an hour or something, thinking more is better. My face felt super tight after washing it off. Ever since then, I've had this weird redness on my cheeks that won’t go away. Is that normal or did I mess up the home made facial pack? And, should I be using different ingredients for my skin type? I have oily skin and I've read some people with dry skin love home made facial pack with avocados and stuff. Should I try that instead? I just don’t wanna end up making my skins worse. Also, what's the ideal time to leave a home made facial pack on? Like, what’s safe? Need some guidance, cause right now, I feel like a walking experiment gone wrong!

It sounds like you had an interesting experience with the homemade facial pack, and it’s not uncommon for different ingredients to react differently with various skin types. Redness and tightness can be a sign that your skin wasn’t too happy with either the ingredients, the duration you left it on, or possibly both. Turmeric, while often praised for its anti-inflammatory properties, can irritate some people, especially if you used too much or left it on for a long time. An hour is a bit excessive for most face masks, including natural ones, as they are usually recommended to be left on for about 15-20 minutes. Regarding your skin type - since you mentioned having oily skin, using ingredients like yogurt is generally a good choice as it’s rich in lactic acid which can help exfoliate gently. Honey is also soothing but, with turmeric, might be too much for your skin when mixed and left for a prolonged period. Oily skin often benefits from ingredients that can reduce excess oil and provide gentle exfoliation. Try something like a simple combination of honey and lemon juice or oatmeal and milk. Be cautious with avocados, they may be more suited for dry skin due to their high fat content. Whenever trying new ingredients, it’s best to do a patch test on a small area of your skin first to ensure there isn’t a negative reaction. As for the redness, if it persists, it might be worth consulting with a dermatologist just to be safe and to rule out any allergic reactions or underlying issues. In the meantime, try using gentle, non-irritating skincare products and ensure you’re moisturizing adequately to support your skin barrier. When experimenting with homemade facial packs again, remember to stick to brief, recommended times and be mindful of each ingredient’s properties and how they mesh with your particular skin type.
