home remedies for oily scalp - #28920
I am really struggling with this issue with my scalp being super oily. It started about a year ago, and I thought maybe it was just the products I was using, but even after switching shampoos, it didn’t change much. In fact, it's gotten worse! I wash my hair every day because of it but still feel like my scalp is greasy like within a few hours. A close friend told me she found some amazing home remedies for oily scalp that helped her a ton! I’m curious if anyone here has tried any home remedies for oily scalp that worked for them? I’ve heard things like apple cider vinegar can help, but honestly, I don’t wanna spend time trying random stuff that won’t work or might even make it worse. I even thought about trying a baking soda scrub, but I'm not really sure how that works, and like would that seriously do something for oily scalp? Would love some firsthand experiences from you guys. What home remedies for oily scalp have you found helpful? Also, I read somewhere that diet can affect it too, so should I be changing anything in my diet? I just, I wanna find something before I lose all my hair, you know?

When dealing with an oily scalp, it can be frustrating but there are a few home remedies that may help. Before trying anything at home, it’s important to understand the underlying causes—such as hormonal factors, stress, excessive oil production, or possibly skin conditions like seborrheic dermatitis. If the condition persists, it could be worthwhile discussing it with a dermatologist. In terms of home remedies, apple cider vinegar (ACV) is often recommended due to its acidity, which can help restore the scalp’s natural pH balance. You can try mixing it with water, in a ratio of 1 part ACV to 3 parts water, applying it to your scalp, leaving it on for about 5 minutes before rinsing thoroughly. Be cautious not to overuse this, as it might dry out your hair if used too frequently.
Regarding baking soda, it’s known for its oil-absorbing properties, but it can be a bit harsh and might cause dryness or irritation if your scalp is sensitive. If you want to try it, consider using it sparingly—make a paste with baking soda and water, and gently massage it into your scalp before rinsing thoroughly. Diet can also play a role in scalp health; maintaining a balanced diet rich in omega-3 fatty acids, zinc, and vitamins like B and E can be beneficial. Consider reducing intake of sugar and processed foods as these can sometimes exacerbate oily skin conditions due to their impact on hormone levels. While exploring these remedies, simplicity is key—avoid over-washing your hair, as this can strip natural oils, causing your scalp to produce even more oil. Experiment cautiously and discontinue any remedy if you experience irritation or notice worsening of your symptoms. If the issue doesn’t improve or if you notice hair loss, consider seeking professional guidance.
