can we apply aloe vera and onion juice together - #19086

Kimaya

I am kinda in a jam here and need some guidance. A few weeks ago, I started noticing some annoying hair thinning, and it’s been stressing me out! I was doing some research and stumbled upon a lot of people recommending different home remedies. They say that can we apply aloe vera and onion juice together for better hair growth, but I’m really not sure. I mean, I get that both have their benefits—aloe vera is super soothing and everyone raves about onion juice for hair, but do they really work well together? I tried using them separately, but I didn't notice any drastic changes, to be honest. My scalp feels love-hate with all this experimenting anyway, cause sometimes it gets itchy or kinda irritated. I've also read that can we apply aloe vera and onion juice together might help with nutrients or something? Like, is that actually a thing? I’m just seeking some advice from folks who might have actually tried it. Am I risking my scalp for nothing, or is there genuinely a point in mixing the two? I don’t wanna end up with a disaster! Any tips would really help!

Doctors' responses

When it comes to natural remedies like aloe vera and onion juice, the evidence around their use for hair growth is primarily anecdotal rather than scientifically rigorous. Aloe vera is known for its soothing properties and may help with scalp irritation, while onion juice is often praised for its sulfur content, which is said to promote hair growth. Individually, many people report benefits, but scientific studies that verify these benefits are limited. Applying them together is unlikely to harm your hair or scalp significantly unless you have a sensitivity or allergy to either. However, since you’ve experienced some irritation, it’s crucial to approach this carefully. Mixing aloe vera with onion juice could potentially offset some irritation onion might cause due to aloe’s calming properties, but if your scalp is becoming itchy or irritated, it’s important to proceed with caution. Conduct a patch test first by applying a small amount to your skin before putting it on your entire scalp to avoid adverse reactions. Start with short, less frequent applications and pay attention to how your scalp responds over time. Be mindful of hygiene with onion juice, as it can leave a lingering odor. Use these treatments as part of a balanced hair care routine that includes gentle shampooing with products appropriate for your hair type—consider consulting with a dermatologist to ensure no underlying scalp conditions need addressing. If you notice persistent or worsening symptoms, it might be wise to stop these treatments and seek professional medical advice to ensure there are no other contributing factors to your hair thinning, such as nutritional deficiencies or hormonal imbalances, which might require specific treatments for improvement.
