skin peeling after waxing - #20904

Shivam

I am really worried about something that happened after my last waxing. I mean, I have always waxed, but this time, my skin started peeling after waxing and it's kinda freaking me out. Like, I had super smooth skin right after the service, all nice and pretty, but then a few days later, I noticed this dryness and then, bam, skin peeling after waxing! I tried putting on my regular body lotion, but it didn’t help at all. The skin feels itchy and looks red in patches too, which just makes me more nervous. I wonder if this is a normal reaction or if I messed something up? Should I be putting some different creams on it or leave it be? I've read about skin peeling after waxing but always thought it was something that happened to others, not me! Should I go see a dermatologist, or will it clear up on its own? I don’t wanna be stuck with peeling skin for too long. Any advice from you guys would be super helpful! Just trying to figure out if this is usual or if I need to take a different approach since skin peeling after waxing is definitely not something I expected to deal with!

If you’re experiencing skin peeling after waxing, this can happen for a few reasons. Waxing can irritate the skin, especially if it’s sensitive or if the wax was too hot or pulled off harshly. The peeling might just be a mild reaction to this irritation. Considering you also mentioned itchiness and redness, it sounds like your skin is reacting more than it usually does, which isn’t unusual but does need a bit of attention. It’s crucial to avoid picking or peeling the skin further, as this could lead to scarring or infection. Firstly, stop using the regular lotion that doesn’t seem to be helping and try a fragrance-free moisturizer designed for sensitive skin, or an aloe vera gel, which can help soothe irritation. It’s also important to avoid any harsh soaps or exfoliants on that area until it heals, and perhaps wear loose-fitting clothes to minimize further irritation. Over-the-counter hydrocortisone cream could be helpful in reducing inflammation and itching, but avoid using it too frequently without medical advice. If you notice any signs of infection, like increased redness, pus, or significant pain, or if the peeling doesn’t improve in a few days, it’s prudent to consult with a dermatologist. They can provide treatments that can more effectively soothe and repair the skin barrier. Also, consider the waxing protocol or salon used, review if they followed all proper procedures and possibly avoid waxing for a while to let your skin recover fully.
