is curd good for loose motion - #21545

Shreya

I am dealing with this annoying issue of loose motion for the past few days. It all started after I tried some street food that looked a bit off, honestly! I've been feeling really out of sorts, like my stomach is just doing somersaults or something. My doctor suggested staying hydrated and eating light, but now I’m wondering if curd is good for loose motion. I remember someone saying that curd can help calm down the stomach, but I'm not sure if that's true. I mean, should I eat it or avoid it? When I’ve had loose motion before, I’d always stick to plain rice and toast, it helped a lot, but with curd, I just think of the probiotics and how they might help balance things out, right? But then again, I can’t shake the doubt if it could somehow make the situation worse? I'm really confused here!! Is curd actually good for loose motion, or am I just kidding myself thinking it could help? Would love to hear what you guys think about curd in this context and if you’ve seen any good or bad results with it!

Doctors' responses

Curd can actually be beneficial when you’re dealing with loose motion, mainly because it contains probiotics, which are “good” bacteria that can aid in restoring the balance of the gut flora. Diarrhea often disrupts this balance, and introducing probiotics through curd might help in re-establishing the right bacterial environment in your intestines. However, it’s important to ensure that curd is fresh and prepared hygienically; contaminated products could exacerbate your symptoms. When your digestive system is sensitive, introducing any dairy might make some folks uneasy, so you need to gauge how your body responds. It’s generally safe to try some plain, unsweetened curd in small quantities initially to see if it’s digestible for you. Also, consider incorporating it with easily digestible foods like rice or toast you’ve already been having.

If your symptoms persist or worsen, it’s crucial to consult your doctor as prolonged diarrhea can lead to dehydration and other complications. You want to maintain hydration with fluids like water, oral rehydration solutions, and clear broths. Keep an eye on the volume and frequency of the motion too. If there are any alarming symptoms, such as blood in the stool, severe abdominal pain, or signs of dehydration such as reduced urination or dizziness, seeking immediate medical assistance is advised. These could be indicators of a more significant health concern needing direct medical evaluation. As you try curd or any new remedy, monitor your condition closely for changes. When in doubt, it’s always better to touch base with a healthcare professional.
