what is the use of hair serum - #22396

Priya

I am really confused about what is the use of hair serum. Like, I just got this new hair serum after my friend, who seriously has the most amazing hair ever, kept talking about how it changed her life, and now I’m like, “What am I even doing without it?” I’ve been dealing with some serious frizz lately. My hair feels dry and just overall lifeless. I’ve tried all these different shampoos and conditioners, but nothing seems to work. My aunt even suggested to me to get a hair serum, but honestly, I didn't even know what she meant. I ended up googling what is the use of hair serum, but I still have a ton of questions. Like, do I put it on wet or dry hair? How much should I use? And do I have to stop using my regular conditioner? Also, I can't help but wonder if there's a downside to using hair serum? Does it weigh your hair down or make it look greasy after a while? Just yesterday, I used it after washing my hair, and I’m not sure if it helped or just made me feel better because I finally felt like I was trying something new. Just trying to figure out what is the use of hair serum and if it really lives up to the hype!

Hair serum can be a useful addition to your hair care routine, especially if you’re dealing with frizz, dryness, and lackluster hair. It’s designed to smooth out the surface of the hair, making it appear shinier and reducing frizz by coating the hair with a protective layer. Typically made with silicones, serums also act as a barrier against humidity and other environmental stressors, which could further exacerbate frizz. When it comes to application, hair serum should ideally be applied to wet or damp hair right after washing. It helps to lock in moisture, while also paving the way for easier styling. Although there’s no need to discontinue your regular conditioner, using conditioner beforehand can help maintain moisture within the hair shaft. The key is to find a balance—use a few drops of serum, starting with a small quantity, to ensure it doesn’t weigh your hair down or make it greasy. You can adjust the amount based on how your hair reacts. In terms of drawbacks, some people may notice build-up over time or lack of volume, especially if the serum is silicone-heavy or if too much is applied. If you find this becoming an issue, you can focus the application on the ends and mid-lengths of your hair rather than the roots, or you might consider a clarifying shampoo periodically to prevent buildup. It’s about trial and error, finding the right product and the right amount that works for your specific hair type.
