can we apply olive oil on hair - #22625

Kian

I am really curious and confused about something that's been on my mind for a while. A few weeks ago, I started to notice that my hair was getting super dry and frizzy, and a friend suggested that maybe I should try olive oil. It's funny because I've heard about using olive oil on hair all the time, but I never really thought about actually doing it. I mean, can we apply olive oil on hair? I did a bit of searching, and some people say it can help with moisture, while others say it might weigh your hair down too much. I tried it last night by warming up a little bit and massaging it into my scalp and lengths. I left it in for about an hour before washing it out. My hair felt kinda smoother, but I'm still not sure. Can we apply olive oil on hair? Like, is there a right way to do it? I've read that it could help with split ends too, but how often should I be doing this? Will it really improve the overall health of my hair, or am I just wasting time and effort? Also, does anyone have tips on how to wash it out properly? I don’t wanna end up with greasy hair for days. Thanks a lot for any advice!!

Yes, you can apply olive oil to your hair, and many people find it beneficial for adding moisture and reducing frizz. Olive oil is rich in fatty acids and vitamin E, which can help improve the appearance and texture of your hair by providing lubrication to the hair shaft. You mentioned warming the oil before application, which is a good approach as it helps the oil penetrate more effectively. After massaging it into your scalp and hair, leaving it in for about an hour, as you did, is typically sufficient for absorption. However, the frequency of use really depends on your hair type. If your hair is very dry or damaged, applying olive oil once a week might be beneficial. For those with more oily hair, less frequent applications may be best to avoid weighing it down.

Regarding the washing out process, using a clarifying shampoo can help ensure all the oil is removed without leaving a greasy residue. You might need to shampoo twice. It can be a bit of trial and error to find the sweet spot between moisture and oiliness, but a good trick is to emulsify the shampoo in your hands before applying it to dry, oil-covered hair for the first wash. This can help break down the oil more effectively. As for addressing split ends, while olive oil can make them less noticeable, the most effective way to deal with split ends is regular trims.

Overall, whether olive oil will significantly improve hair health can vary. It’s mostly about maintaining appearance, as internal factors like diet and overall health also play a crucial role in hair condition. For persistent dryness or other hair concerns, consulting with a dermatologist or trichologist might be worthwhile.
