Dr. Bharat Joshi
I’m a periodontist and academician with a strong clinical and teaching background. Over the last 4 years and 8 months, I’ve been actively involved in dental education, guiding students at multiple levels including dental hygienist, BDS, and MDS programs. Currently, I serve as a Reader at MMCDSR in Ambala, Haryana—a role that allows me to merge my academic passion with hands-on experience. Clinically, I’ve been practicing dentistry for the past 12 years. From routine procedures like scaling and root planing to more advanced cases involving grafts, biopsies, and implant surgeries. Honestly, I still find joy in doing a simple RCT when it’s needed. It’s not just about the procedure but making sure the patient feels comfortable and safe. Academically, I have 26 research publications to my credit. I’m on the editorial boards of the Archives of Dental Research and Journal of Dental Research and Oral Health, and I’ve spent a lot of time reviewing manuscripts—from case reports to meta-analyses and even book reviews. I was honored to receive the “Best Editor” award by Innovative Publications, and Athena Publications recognized me as an “excellent reviewer,” which honestly came as a bit of a surprise! In 2025, I had the opportunity to present a guest lecture in Italy on traumatic oral lesions. Sharing my work and learning from peers globally has been incredibly fulfilling. Outside academics and clinics, I’ve also worked in the pharmaceutical sector as a Drug Safety Associate for about 3 years, focusing on pharmacovigilance. That role really sharpened my attention to detail and deepened my understanding of drug interactions and adverse effects. My goal is to keep learning, and give every patient and student my absolute best.

Hello dear See you are quite young. At this age phimosis will subsequently subside within 3-4 years maximum. However for improvement iam suggesting some medication and precautions Please follow them for atleast a month Clobetasol 0.5 percent topical application twice a day for 2 weeks Mild genital excercise not forcefully. Application of lukewarm water for improvement In case of no improvement consult gynaecologist or sexologist in person for better clarity. Last resort is circumcision or preputiplasty Hopefully you recover soon Regards

Phimosis, where the foreskin cannot be retracted over the glans penis, is quite common and often manageable with non-surgical methods, particularly since you’re not experiencing any pain or discomfort. First-line non-surgical treatment typically involves the use of topical corticosteroids like betamethasone cream, which can help reduce the tightness by decreasing inflammation and promoting skin elasticity. You would usually apply the cream to the tight area of the foreskin twice a day for a few weeks — often 4 to 6 weeks, but the specific duration and treatment plan should ideally be recommended by your doctor or a healthcare professional familiar with your individual condition. Be sure to apply it as directed, usually sparingly, to the affected area while gently trying to stretch the foreskin. In addition to using the cream, regular gentle stretching exercises can help over time. These involve gently pulling the foreskin back only as far as it’s naturally able to go without causing pain, ideally after a bath or shower when the skin is softer. It’s crucial not to force the retraction, as this can cause scarring or tearing that might make the phimosis worse. If treated correctly, many individuals see improvements in the flexibility of their foreskin with these conservative methods. Monitor your progress and any changes in symptoms, and if you do not see improvement or experience any symptoms such as pain, discomfort, or infections, you should consult a healthcare professional. They might consider other approaches or evaluate for any underlying issues. In very rare cases where topical treatments and stretching do not work, a surgical approach, like circumcision or preputioplasty, might be considered, but that’s usually the last option when non-surgical routes have been exhausted.
