how long multani mitti on face - #23842

Mahi

I am really confused about using multani mitti. I’ve heard so much about its benefits for skin, and I decided to give it a try last week because my face has been super oily and I’ve been breaking out a little. I mixed the multani mitti with some rosewater and applied it, feeling like I was making this amazing spa treatment at home! But the thing is, I left it on for about 25 minutes, and I was nervous if that was too long or not long enough. I mean, how long is multani mitti on face supposed to stay on anyway? I wanted to make sure I wasn't overdoing it because, seriously, I could feel it drying up and pulling my skin tight, which felt kind of scary! I read that you shouldn’t leave it for hours, but what if you accidentally do? Does it get harmful? And I’m not really sure if 25 min was right or too much. Can someone tell me how long multani mitti on face is best for? Should I even use it at all if I have sensitive skin, or how can I tell if it’s working? Just, I don’t want to mess up my face more!

Multani mitti, also known as fuller’s earth, can definitely be a great addition to a skincare routine, especially for oily or acne-prone skin. Generally, the recommended time to leave it on your face is about 10 to 15 minutes. This allows it to absorb excess oil, unclog pores, and add a gentle exfoliation without over-drying your skin. If left on too long, like in your case for 25 minutes or more, especially for people with sensitive skin, it can potentially strip the skin of its natural oils, leading to excessive dryness or irritation. For those with sensitive skin, it’s advisable to test a small patch first to see how your skin reacts. If it feels dry or itchy, you might want to reduce the time it’s on your face or consider mixing it with a more hydrating ingredient like honey or yogurt instead of rosewater. It’s also good practice to follow up with a light moisturizer after using multani mitti to maintain the moisture balance. Accidentally leaving it on for a longer period is likely not harmful in a one-off instance, although excessively prolonged exposure regularly could irritate the skin barrier. To determine if it’s working, monitor your skin over a few weeks for decreased oiliness or fewer breakouts, but reduce use if you notice increased dryness or redness. Using multani mitti 1-2 times a week might be sufficient for managing excess oil without drying out your skin. If you have persistent skin issues, considering seeking advice from a dermatologist to ensure the treatment aligns with your skin’s needs.
