does masterbation increase height - #24636

Riya

I am really curious about something ever since my teenager son started asking questions. He's hit that growth spurt phase where he's suddenly interested in anything related to height and body changes. The other day, we were talking about growth and he mentioned something like "does masterbation increase height?" I couldn’t help but chuckle a bit, but it got me thinking if there’s any truth to this. He’s 15 now and I know it's a common topic for kids his age to explore, but how is it even possible that masterbation could affect height? It sounds kinda odd but he was adamant that he heard something on the internet about hormones and growth spurts. I told him I would look into it, but I'm honestly just scratching my head here! I mean, does masterbation increase height, or is it just a myth? I tried finding some legit info but most of what I found was kinda all over the place. Honestly just want to make sure I provide the right info for him and not freak him out or anything. Any insights from you guys on this? Does masterbation increase height or affect growth in any way?? Super appreciate any thoughts!

Masturbation doesn’t increase height. It’s a common myth, but there’s no scientific basis for it. Height is mainly determined by genetics, nutrition, and overall health during the growth years. The hormones involved in growth, like growth hormone and testosterone, aren’t significantly affected by masturbation in any way that would impact height. It’s pretty normal for teenagers to be curious about these things though, especially when there are so many misconceptions flying around on the internet. During puberty, the body is undergoing a lot of changes and it’s around this time that they often experience growth spurts. So, it makes sense that your son is interested in understanding more about it. If he ever seems concerned or has more questions, it might be helpful to explain how other factors like diet, exercise, and sleep play a more substantive role in growth. Ensuring he gets enough nutrition, has regular physical activity, and good sleep can support his growth and development. In case he feels unsure or anxious about any aspect of his development or has more questions, connecting with a healthcare professional might provide more reassurance and clarity. It’s great that he’s comfortable reaching out to you with these questions, and it’s part of supporting him through these formative years.
