how to identify pure shilajit - #24647

Aryan

I am really confused about this whole thing with shilajit. Last month, I was feeling really fatigued and a friend recommended trying shilajit for energy and overall wellness. I did some research and it sounded great! But when I went shopping for it, I found ALL sorts of brands and forms—pure, liquid, resin, you name it. Like, I have no idea how to identify pure shilajit! I bought some that was labeled “premium” but I still feel like I could just be wasting my money. Is there a way to actually test how to identify pure shilajit before I commit to buying it again? Do I look for certain colors or textures? I read somewhere that if it dissolves in water, it might not be authentic, but what exactly does that mean? And can anyone share their own tips on how to identify pure shilajit? Cuz honestly, I can't tell if the stuff I have now is legit or just some weird supplement. Sometimes it’s dark and thick, and other times it’s like tar—really confusing! Help, please!

To identify pure shilajit, you’re right to look at characteristics like color, texture, and solubility. Pure shilajit is typically a dark brown to black resin that is shiny and sticky when raw, or earthy and aromatic when processed. One common test is to dissolve a small piece in warm water; if it’s pure, it should dissolve completely, leaving no gritty residue behind, and the solution will appear dark and smooth. Inauthentic shilajit often contains fillers that won’t dissolve fully, leaving sediment. Another thing to consider is the temperature response: pure shilajit softens at body temperature and becomes more solid when cooled, similar to how beeswax would behave. You might also test its flammability—genuine shilajit will not catch fire easily, unlike counterfeit versions that may contain flammable additives like sugars or oils. Be cautious with marketing terms like “premium,” as these don’t guarantee purity. Instead, look for certifications or independent lab tests from the brand, detailing mineral content and confirming the absence of heavy metals or contaminants. If the product is very low-priced compared to others, that’s sometimes a red flag since authentic shilajit is relatively expensive to source and produce. A little bit of online research could help you find reputable brands that consistently offer certified shilajit. Overall, purchase from trusted suppliers who can provide transparent sourcing information and test results. Always prioritize safety, and feel free to consult with a healthcare professional if you’re unsure about incorporating supplements into your lifestyle, especially if you have any existing health conditions.
