how to use sesame oil for hair - #25031

Kabir

I am really confused about how to use sesame oil for hair. I started getting super dry hair during the winter, and a friend mentioned that sesame oil could help. I’ve tried a few things, like mcoconut oil and argan oil, but man, they didn’t seem to do the trick. I read somewhere that sesame oil has some amazing benefits, like promoting hair growth and making it shinier? But I’m not sure how to actually use it. Do I just put it straight on my scalp or mix it with something else? And how often should I be using it??? I tried looking for instructions online, but they’re all kinda vague. Some say to massage it for like 30 minutes, while others say just a little bit will do. Do I need to heat it up or apply it cold? Do I wash it out after a certain time, or is it like a leave-in treatment? Also, does sesame oil work better for certain hair types? I have thick wavy hair and I just don’t wanna end up greasy. Any tips on how to use sesame oil for hair without making it look all messy? Pretty desperate here and just want my hair to feel nice again!

Using sesame oil for hair can be an effective way to address dryness and enhance the health and appearance of your hair. To get you started, here’s a straightforward guide on how to use it. Begin by choosing a good quality sesame oil – preferably organic or cold-pressed – because these are less likely to have impurities and retain the oil’s beneficial qualities. If your hair is thick and wavy, sesame oil can indeed help reduce dryness and enhance shine, given its high nutrient content and fatty acids. Apply the sesame oil directly to your scalp and work it through to the ends of your hair. You can gently warm the oil slightly before application. This helps improve its absorption but make sure it’s not too hot to avoid discomfort or burns. Doing so often helps in promoting circulation and can generally be more soothing. You should aim to massage it into your scalp for about 5-10 minutes, allowing the oil to penetrate the hair follicles and nourish your scalp thoroughly. It can be beneficial to wrap your hair in a warm towel afterward, which aids in further absorption. Leave the oil on for at least 30 minutes or for deeper conditioning, you might want to keep it on overnight. This decision may depend on your level of comfort and the time you have available. After the treatment, wash it out with a mild shampoo. It might take a couple of rinses to completely remove the oil, depending on how much you’ve used, but avoid applying too much shampoo, which can dry out your hair further. Typically, using sesame oil once or twice a week is a good start, allowing you to see how your hair responds and adjust the frequency as necessary. Be mindful, though, if you have any history of allergies or sensitivities; perform a patch test before using it extensively. While sesame oil is generally good for many hair types, everyone’s hair can react a little differently, so start with modest amounts to gauge how it affects your hair’s texture and oiliness. Making sure to adjust amounts and frequencies based on personal observation is key.
