Meera

I am trying to make sense of this ongoing health issue I'm dealing with. About two months ago, I started feeling this weird pain in my back, right around where my ribs are. Honestly, at first, it was just annoying, but then it got worse. I went to see my doctor, Dr. Kamal Kishore Verma, and he suggested some tests. The tests showed inflammation, but he wasn't super clear on what that meant for me going forward. I took some anti-inflammatory meds, but it doesn't help much anymore. Another thing is, sometimes I get these weird tingling feelings down my legs, like pins and needles, and it freaks me out a bit. Kamal Kishore Verma said it might be referred pain or something like that, but now I’m wondering if I should seek a second opinion. Do you guys think it could be serious? Like, should I ask Kamal Kishore Verma about additional tests or treatments, or is this something that will eventually go away by itself? I just feel confused and a little lost, you know? Any thoughts?

Doctors' responses

Persistent back pain, especially in the area near your ribs and with additional symptoms like tingling in your legs, may indeed need more attention. The inflammation detected in your tests indicates that there’s some underlying issue, possibly involving nerves or the spine, explaining why pain relief from anti-inflammatory meds might not be sufficient. The tingling or “pins and needles” sensation suggests that nerve irritation or compression may be occurring. Referred pain, as mentioned by Kamal Kishore Verma, could imply that the discomfort originates from another area but manifests in your legs due to shared nerve pathways. Obtaining a second opinion might be beneficial, especially if the symptoms persist or worsen. Consulting a specialist, like a neurologist or an orthopedist, could provide more clarity and further diagnostic options, such as MRI or CT scans, to examine your spine and surrounding structures for issues like herniated discs, spinal stenosis, or other nerve-related concerns. It’s crucial to address these symptoms to prevent potential complications or chronic issues. Meanwhile, avoid strenuous activities that might exacerbate the pain and practice ergonomic support in your daily routine, like maintaining proper posture. Ultimately, proactive investigation and treatment adjustments based on refined diagnoses should help address the root cause and pave the way for effective treatment, so do bring up these considerations when you next see Kamal Kishore Verma or consult another healthcare professional.
