Doctors’ responses

Meniscus allograft transplantation can be a suitable option to address the issues you’re experiencing due to the previous meniscus deficiency. This procedure can help alleviate pain, improve joint function, and possibly slow the progression of osteoarthritis by restoring some cushioning in the joint. At the age of 42, you may still be a suitable candidate if you have a relatively healthy knee without significant arthritis. However, your eligibility depends on various factors such as the condition of your knee, overall health, and lifestyle. You should consult with an orthopedic surgeon who specializes in sports medicine and knee surgeries to evaluate your specific situation. Look for an orthopedic center or a surgeon with experience in meniscal transplants; they usually practice in larger hospitals or academic medical centers that focus on sports injuries. It’s essential to discuss the potential benefits, risks, and post-operative recovery process with the specialist to make an informed decision. You must also be aware that rehabilitation after such a surgery is crucial for long-term success, often involving a structured physical therapy program to restore strength and mobility. While the location and choice of specialist can vary based on where you live, many patients seek care at centers renowned for sports medicine. It’s advisable to start by discussing options with your current healthcare provider or local orthopedic clinics to find a reputable expert in your area.
