honey face mask overnight - #28905
I am really confused about this whole honey face mask overnight thing! A week ago, I decided to try it after reading all the amazing benefits online. My skin was super dry and I thought why not give it a shot, right? So I slathered this honey face mask overnight on my face, and I felt all excited. Woke up the next morning thinking I’d have this glowing skin, but instead, my face was kinda sticky and not really glowing as I envisioned. I've read that the honey face mask overnight can help with hydration and dryness, but I honestly didn’t see a difference! Am I doing something wrong? Should I be worried if I leave honey on too long? I thought it would soak in but it just felt like it was kinda sitting on top of my skin. Maybe I put too much? Or perhaps I should wash it off sooner? I really wanna make this honey face mask overnight work for me. Is there a specific type of honey that’s better for this? What am I missing here? Any tips would be super helpful! I really need to revive my skin quickly!

Doctors' responses
Leaving honey on your skin overnight can sometimes lead to mixed results, particularly if the skin has different underlying issues. Honey is indeed known for its moisturizing and antibacterial properties due to its natural properties, but effectiveness can vary based on several factors. Firstly, applying a thick layer might prevent the honey from sinking in, causing it to sit on the surface of your skin, which could contribute to that sticky feeling you described. A thinner layer may be more effective, allowing better absorption. Additionally, consider the type of honey; raw, unpasteurized honey or manuka honey have higher concentrations of beneficial enzymes which might perform better than regular store-bought honey. It might be also helpful to note that leaving any mask on overnight, including a honey mask, can sometimes lead to skin irritation especially for sensitive skin types or those prone to breakouts because it can disrupt the skin’s natural balance. Instead, you might want to try applying it for 15-30 minutes before rinsing off to see if it delivers the hydration benefits without stickiness. If your skin was particularly dry and you saw no improvement, it may need additional hydration like a moisturizer with hyaluronic acid post-mask which can help trap moisture in the skin more effectively. If prolonged dryness persists, consider visiting a healthcare professional to explore other underlying causes, as chronic dry skin can be a symptom of broader dermatological or systemic conditions. Always patch-test new substances before applying them broadly to ensure your skin doesn’t react adversely.
