Doctors' responses

Hello Thanks for sharing your friend’s situation. Taking multiple medicines like paracetamol, Saridon, and “bikacapsul” (possibly a multivitamin or supplement) can sometimes cause side effects, especially if taken together or in high doses.

Symptoms like painful feeling under the chest and vomiting could be due to: - Stomach irritation or gastritis from the medicines - Possible overdose or drug interaction - Other unrelated causes

What to do right now: - Make sure your friend stops taking any more medicines for now. - Encourage him to rest and drink small sips of water. - If the pain is severe, vomiting continues, or he feels very weak, dizzy, or confused, he should see a doctor immediately—especially if he took a high dose of paracetamol, as it can harm the liver.

When to seek urgent help: - Severe abdominal pain - Persistent vomiting - Yellowing of skin/eyes - Confusion or drowsiness

If you can, let me know how many tablets of each medicine he took and if he has any other health conditions. This will help me guide you better.

Thank you

Hello, thank you for sharing your concern. This situation can be serious. Taking 16 tablets/capsules containing medicines like paracetamol, Saridon, and other drugs together can cause poisoning/overdose, even if symptoms started only later.

Chest/upper stomach pain, vomiting, and shortness of breath after multiple medicines may suggest: - Drug overdose toxicity - Gastritis/stomach irritation or bleeding - Liver injury (especially from excess paracetamol) - Medication-related heart or metabolic problems

Your friend should NOT stay at home waiting for symptoms to improve.

Please take him to the nearest emergency department/ER immediately, especially because: - Symptoms started after taking many medicines - Vomiting and chest pain are present - Shortness of breath is present

Doctors may need: - Blood tests (especially liver function and paracetamol level) - ECG - IV fluids/anti-vomiting treatment - Specific antidote if paracetamol overdose is suspected

Important: - Do NOT give more paracetamol or painkillers - Avoid alcohol - Keep him hydrated if able to drink - Carry the medicine strips/packages to the hospital

Emergency warning signs: - Drowsiness/confusion - Yellow eyes/skin - Severe breathing difficulty - Persistent vomiting - Severe abdominal pain

Final Prescription / Advice: - Immediate emergency medical evaluation recommended today - No further self-medication or painkillers - Hospital assessment for possible overdose/toxicity is necessary

Advice: Paracetamol overdose can sometimes cause delayed liver damage even when symptoms initially seem mild, so urgent medical assessment is important.

Feel free to reach out again.

Regards, Dr. Nirav Jain MBBS, D.Fam.Medicine

It’s crucial to address potential medication overdose or interactions quickly. Your friend’s symptoms—chest pain and vomiting after taking multiple medications like paracetamol and Saridon—could signal a serious issue, such as liver toxicity with paracetamol or other adverse effects from drug interactions. First, ensure your friend stops taking any more medication immediately. They should seek medical attention as soon as possible, ideally by going to the nearest emergency department. This situation warrants immediate evaluation because the mix of medications can be dangerous and needs urgent intervention. Even common medications like paracetamol can lead to liver damage when taken in excessive amounts, further emphasizing the need for quick medical assessment. The medical team can perform necessary tests, including blood work, to check for liver function and potential toxicity levels. They might also initiate decontamination procedures or administer activated charcoal if it’s within a certain timeframe since ingestion. In the meantime, it’s important not to try any home remedies or wait to see if symptoms improve on their own, as delaying could worsen the situation. If you can, gather all medications your friend took, including dose information, so healthcare providers have all necessary information. You must act swiftly in this situation and prioritize getting professional help to ensure your friend’s safety.

Hello

Taking 16 tablets including medicines like paracetamol and Saridon can be dangerous, especially with chest pain, vomiting, and shortness of breath. Your friend needs urgent medical evaluation today, ideally in an emergency department. This could be due to medication overdose, stomach irritation/bleeding, liver injury from too much paracetamol, or another serious reaction.

Do not give more painkillers, alcohol, or additional medicines right now. If possible, find out exactly which tablets and how many were taken, and take the strips/bottles to the hospital. If he becomes very sleepy, confused, has worsening breathing trouble, severe abdominal pain, or collapses, call emergency services immediately.

Even if the symptoms seem mild now, paracetamol overdose can sometimes cause dangerous liver damage that appears later, so it is important not to “wait and watch” at home.

Take care

Taking around 16 tablets including Paracetamol and Saridon can be dangerous and may cause poisoning, stomach irritation, liver injury, breathing problems, or other serious complications, especially with vomiting, chest/upper abdominal pain, and shortness of breath. Your friend needs urgent medical evaluation at an emergency department or poison center immediately, even if symptoms seem mild right now, because paracetamol overdose can cause delayed but severe liver damage. Do not give more medicines or alcohol, and if possible take the medicine strips/packages to the hospital so doctors know exactly what was taken.
