can baking soda remove stains - #20992

Palak

I am really freaking out over this stubborn stain on my favorite sweater. I spilled some coffee on it, and despite trying a couple of normal laundry detergents, nothing seemed to work. I heard from a friend that can baking soda remove stains, and now I’m kinda desperate to see if it really does. I’m talking about those dark, almost permanent coffee stains that just won’t budge. I've read online that can baking soda remove stains, especially when mixed with vinegar or even just water, and I’m tempted to try it but don’t wanna ruin my sweater more. Do you guys think that can baking soda remove stains effectively? Like, what's the best way to use it? Should I let it sit for a while or just scrub it a bit and rinse? I’ve been avoiding wearing my sweater because it just looks so bad, and I really wanna save it. Another thing is I'm just concerned if it will affect the fabric. I usually wash my clothes on cold, will that mess up the process of can baking soda remove stains? Pls help me out here, got any tips or success stories?

Baking soda can indeed be quite effective for tackling stains, including coffee stains, thanks to its mild abrasive properties. It acts as a gentle cleaner, which makes it suitable for dealing with stubborn marks without being too harsh on fabrics. To use baking soda on your coffee-stained sweater, start by making a paste by mixing a tablespoon of baking soda with a little water, just enough to achieve a thick consistency. Apply this paste directly onto the stained area. Gently rub it in using your fingers or a soft cloth, being careful not to damage the fabric with excessive force. Let the paste sit on the stain for about 15-20 minutes to allow it to absorb some of the coffee residue. After the waiting period, rinse the sweater under cold water to wash off the paste. If the stain remains visible, you may try repeating the process or using a mixture of baking soda and white vinegar. Add a few drops of vinegar to the baking soda paste and watch for light fizzing—this can help lift the stain more effectively. Ensure you rinse thoroughly afterwards. Cold water is generally recommended when washing out stains, as hot water might set certain stains permanently into fabrics. As a precaution, it’s always wise to test the paste on an inconspicuous area of the sweater first to check for any adverse reactions or discoloration. Remember, while baking soda is safe for most fabrics, if the sweater is made from a delicate material like silk or cashmere, consider seeking professional cleaning to avoid any potential damage.
