Based on the information you’ve provided—a tongue bite resulting in a sore that turned into a yellowish spot with a white border—it’s likely, what’s called an ulceration due to trauma. It’s common for minor trauma to the tongue to cause this kind of response, and the fact that the pain has almost resolved is a reassuring sign that your body is healing naturally. When you’ve sustained an injury to the tongue, the initial sore can indeed become slightly discolored as it begins to heal, often turning yellowish due to fibrin, a protein necessary for healing, and sometimes appearing white from tissues regenerating. This is generally part of the normal healing process. Tongue cancers typically don’t originate from trauma and have a different clinical presentation. They tend to be persistent, growing masses that might bleed easily, and often don’t resolve or change quickly. Considering that your spot has shrunk and pain reduced, cancer is less likely in this case. However, there are always exceptions, and what’s crucial is observing for any more concerning signs. If the spot persists beyond a month without further improvement, or changes in a concerning way, you’d benefit from an examination by a professional. Also, any associated symptoms like swelling of the neck, difficulty swallowing, or significant pain should prompt a more immediate evaluation. To facilitate healing further, maintain good oral hygiene, avoid irritants like spicy foods, and perhaps rinse with a mild saline solution to keep the area clean. If you’re a smoker, reducing or quitting smoking would also be beneficial, as tobacco can interfere with healing and is a risk factor for oral cancers. While cancer seems unlikely, this approach helps ensure any lingering concerns are properly addressed.
