No, it’s not generally advised to reuse needles for teriparatide injections or any injection for that matter. Reusing needles can increase the risk of infection, damaged needles, and contamination. Even if your doctor suggested using a needle for two days, guidelines typically recommend using a new needle for each injection to ensure safety and sterility. Medical guidelines emphasize the single-use nature of needles to minimize these risks. If there’s a distinction in your instructions, consider seeking clarification directly from your healthcare provider to ascertain why it’s been recommended in your specific case. Since teriparatide is usually administered as a daily injection, missing out or risking issues with needles could affect treatment compliance. If the supply of needles feels inadequate given your treatment plan, it’s crucial to communicate this with your healthcare provider or pharmacist, who might adjust the prescription or provide additional supplies. While trying to be resourceful with supplies makes sense, with injections it’s always better to err on the side of caution concerning infection prevention. Additionally, ensure that you’re following other aspects of the injection procedure correctly, like cleaning the injection site with an alcohol swab before administering the shot and disposing of sharps in an appropriate container. If instructions ever conflict or seem unclear, or if you notice any odd reactions at the injection site, promptly reach out to your healthcare professional.
