If physiotherapy and hyaluronic acid injections have not been effective in alleviating symptoms from your medial femoral condyle and patellar chondromalacia, there are several other avenues worth exploring. It’s important first to re-evaluate the diagnosis to ensure other knee conditions like meniscus tears or ligament injuries aren’t contributing to the pain. An MRI might provide detailed imaging that can clarify this. Beyond this, lifestyle modifications could offer some relief — maintaining a healthy weight can reduce knee joint pressure, and modifying activities to lower-impact options like swimming might relieve strain on the knee. If conservative measures fail, discussing surgical options with an orthopedic specialist could be appropriate. Procedures such as arthroscopy can address loose cartilage fragments or advanced techniques like cartilage repair or realignment operations might be considered. Pain management should also be revisited; sometimes, different classes of medications, such as NSAIDs or other analgesics, may be beneficial under careful supervision. Injections of cortisone or platelet-rich plasma (PRP) are other options to discuss. Custom orthotics or bracing could help to re-align the knee joint, which might improve pain and function. Seeking a second opinion, especially from a knee specialist, might provide additional insights into advanced management strategies. Remember, ongoing evaluation by healthcare professionals ensures that treatments remain tailored to your evolving needs. Be cautious about delaying a re-evaluation, as neglected chondromalacia can worsen with time, potentially leading to more extensive joint damage.
