Doctors’ responses

If you’ve been experiencing fever continuously for a month, it’s important to get a thorough examination to uncover any underlying issues. Tonsillitis and the course of azithromycin might have dealt with your throat infection, but the persistent fever suggests there could be other factors at play. The mention of your ESR (Erythrocyte Sedimentation Rate) rising during the rainy season points to a possible inflammatory or infectious process that needs exploring. An ESR rise indicates inflammation but is not specific to a particular condition, so it needs further investigation. Several things could be considered here, such as chronic infections, autoimmune conditions, or other inflammatory disorders.

It would be advisable to see your doctor for a comprehensive evaluation. This might include a more detailed history, physical examination, and possibly blood tests like a complete blood count, CRP (C-reactive protein), liver function tests, or imaging studies if indicated. Depending on the findings, your doctor might consider other antibiotics if a bacterial infection is suspected, or explore viral, fungal, or even parasitic causes, especially if you live in or have traveled to endemic areas. If there are signs of specific conditions, your doctor might refer you to a specialist. Be sure to highlight any accompanying symptoms like weight loss, night sweats, or fatigue, as these can guide further testing. Meanwhile, keep an eye on your symptoms, stay hydrated, and rest as much as possible. Make sure you attend any scheduled follow-up appointments to discuss the next steps in your diagnosis and treatment. If you notice worsening symptoms, or if the fever becomes very high, do seek immediate medical attention.
