Doctors' responses

Your description of thigh pain that intensifies when lifting the leg may suggest a few potential underlying issues. One possibility is a muscle strain, which could be caused by overuse or a sudden increase in physical activity—common occurrences when you’re preparing for a physical efficiency test. Another consideration might be irritation or compression of a nerve, such as the femoral or sciatic nerve, which can cause discomfort in the thigh area. Since the pain lessens at rest but increases with movement, it’s important to temporarily adjust your activity level. Aim for a balance between rest and gentle movements that don’t exacerbate the pain. Applying ice to the affected area for 15-20 minutes several times a day can help reduce inflammation and provide some relief. Over-the-counter anti-inflammatory medications, like ibuprofen, may help manage pain, but only if you don’t have any contraindications such as allergies or stomach issues. Stretching and strengthening exercises focused on the thigh and hip muscles can be beneficial but should be pursued carefully to avoid worsening the pain. Given your situation, consulting a healthcare professional such as a physiotherapist or doctor would be prudent. They can offer an accurate diagnosis and tailor a specific rehabilitation program to your needs. If you experience increased pain, numbness, or weakness, particularly when the symptoms become more severe or interfere with daily activities, seek medical attention promptly as these could indicate a more serious condition. This approach ensures that you’re managing your symptoms effectively while also protecting your long-term physical performance as you prepare for your test.
