green tea bag for eyes - #14778

Rian

I am struggling with some serious puffiness under my eyes lately and I just keep thinking about this green tea bag for eyes thing I read. My friend swears by it, says it works wonders after a long night or just when life gets overwhelming. But like, I don't really know how to use it properly. I mean, do I put the green tea bag for eyes into the fridge or the freezer first, or does it matter? I've tried cold spoons and even cucumber slices, but they’re just not cutting it. Last weekend, I had a mini breakdown at work because I couldn’t hide how tired I looked after two back-to-back late nights. Ugh, so embarrassing! I didn’t even want to leave my desk. Is the green tea bag for eyes actually helping with dark circles or is that just hype? And how long should I leave them on? My friend says 10-15 min, but I'm not sure if that’s enough time. Also, do I make the tea first before putting them on my eyes, or can they be used dry? I’m feeling a bit confused here. Should I just give it a try and see what happens? Would really appreciate any insights!

Doctors’ responses

Green tea bags over the eyes can indeed be beneficial for reducing puffiness. Green tea contains antioxidants and tannins, which may help constrict blood vessels and reduce swelling. To use them effectively, steep the tea bags in hot water for a few minutes first, then remove and allow them to cool slightly. After that, place them in the refrigerator rather than the freezer until they’re comfortably cold. This cooling effect aids in tightening the skin, which can give you that fresh, rested look. Once the bags have cooled, lay back and place them over your closed eyes for about 10-15 minutes, which is generally sufficient to experience some relief. As for dark circles, while green tea can diminish puffiness and make your skin look tighter, it’s less likely to fully address dark circles if they’re caused by factors like genetics or pigmentation changes. However, they may help improve the appearance by reducing inflammation. In terms of usage, definitely ensure the tea bags are slightly moistened as the moisture will help to release those beneficial compounds, but they shouldn’t be dripping wet. Giving it a try is certainly reasonable, and generally speaking, applying green tea bags is safe. Just be careful with sensitivity to caffeine that might cause irritation in some cases. If you’re not seeing improvement or if puffiness is a persistent concern, it may be worth consulting a healthcare provider to rule out other underlying issues like allergies or fluid retention.
