spots on body - #17048
I am super worried cuz I've been noticing these weird spots on my body lately. I first saw one on my arm like a couple of weeks ago. At first, it was just this tiny red dot and I thought it was maybe just a bug bite, ya know? But like, now I’ve got more spots on my body, including some on my legs. They’re not itchy or painful, but it’s just freaking me out. I went to my doc and they ran some tests, but they just said it could be nothing. I mean, what does that even mean? I read online about some skin conditions and now I'm panicking thinking it’s something serious. More spots on my body started showing up and I’m almost at a breaking point here! What could be causing these spots on my body? I’ve also changed my laundry detergent recently, could that be a factor? Or maybe something else entirely? I just wanna make sure it's not anything worse ya know? Has anyone else dealt with random spots on their body and what did you find out? Thanks for any advice!!

Doctors’ responses
It’s understandable to feel concerned when new spots appear on your body. Let’s sort through some possibilities together. The fact that the spots started small, are not itchy or painful, and have been progressively appearing could mean a few different things. Common possibilities include contact dermatitis, especially since you’ve mentioned switching laundry detergent. This type of skin reaction can occur when the skin comes into contact with an irritant or allergen. However, contact dermatitis typically causes some itching, so it may not fully fit your symptoms. Other considerations could include viral infections like molluscum contagiosum or even cherry angiomas, which are small benign blood vessels that appear as red spots on the skin.
Given that skin changes can sometimes be indicative of more serious underlying health issues, such as autoimmune conditions or even a sign of systemic matters like blood disorders, it’s best to continue working with your healthcare provider to rule out significant conditions. Ensure they’ve run or discussed a full skin and blood examination if your symptoms persist or worsen. If the spots change in color, size, or start causing discomfort, that would be a trigger to escalate this matter promptly. Recording any associated symptoms, timing of when new spots appear, and anything else that changed around the time this started (medication, diet changes, environmental exposures) can be crucial for diagnosis. Meanwhile, reverting to your previous laundry detergent could be a simple step to exclude an allergen reaction. Monitor the spots and stay in touch with your doctor to make sure nothing gets missed.
