multani mitti how to use - #22660
I am really curious about multani mitti and how to use it properly. A couple of weeks ago, I started developing some weird breakouts and my aunt told me that multani mitti might help clear my skin. I picked up a pack, but now I'm a bit confused about how to actually use it. Do I need to mix it with water or any other ingredients? I tried just mixing with water the first time, and it felt super thick and hard to spread, so then I added some yogurt, which made it kinda runny. I think it was a mistake? Also, how long should I leave it on my face? I left it for like 15 mins before it started cracking, and I was like, uh oh, am I doing this wrong? The thing is, my skin felt kinda tight after I rinsed it off — should it feel like that? Some people saying multani mitti how to use includes applying a few drops of essential oils... is that true? What do you guys recommend? I'm a bit overwhelmed and really want to make sure I'm using this right because I heard it can be great for oily skin and getting rid of acne. Could you all share tips on what really works with multani mitti how to use? Thanks a lot!

Multani mitti, or fuller’s earth, is a natural clay that’s indeed been used traditionally for addressing skin concerns, particularly for oily skin and acne. To use it properly, start by mixing it with a liquid to form a paste. Water is a common choice, but you can also use rose water, which can help with a more pleasant consistency and has gentle toning properties. If you found it too thick with water alone, try using equal parts multani mitti and your chosen liquid until you get a spreadable paste — it should be smooth, not runny or too thick. Yogurt is fine to use as well, but since it was runny, try using less of it. As for essential oils, they can be beneficial but should be used sparingly. Adding a small drop of tea tree oil can be effective for acne due to its antimicrobial properties, but it can irritate sensitive skin, so a patch test is advisable first.
When applying multani mitti, apply the paste to your face evenly, avoiding the eyes and mouth areas. Leaving it on for about 10-15 minutes is typically enough — avoid waiting until it cracks or feels overly tight, as this could potentially dehydrate the skin or cause irritation. If your skin feels tight after rinsing, that’s relatively normal as clay masks generally absorb excess oils, but ensure you’re following up with a gentle moisturizer to restore some hydration. Applying a light, non-comedogenic moisturizer can help balance this effect. Aim to use the mask 1–2 times a week; overuse can strip your skin of natural oils, worsening dryness or irritation. If you’re still experiencing worsening breakouts or any discomfort, consider consulting a dermatologist as they can help identify any underlying issues and suggest targeted treatments, ensuring you’re not inadvertently exacerbating any conditions.
