how many calories in black chana - #23168

Vedant

I am really trying to figure this out. Been on this health kick lately, and I'm curious about nutrition, you know? Last week I bought a big pack of black chana, and I was like, wow, this looks interesting! I cooked a big batch and made a salad, threw in some veggies, and it tasted pretty darn good. But I can't help but wonder how many calories in black chana are actually in there. I mean, I need to keep track of my intake because of my new diet plan and all. Been tracking everything like a hawk, but when I hit those black chana, the packaging didn’t really help much. I googled around, and there’s a ton of mixed info. I’ve seen calories in black chana listed from 200 to 300 per 100g, but how can there be such a big difference? Do different cooking methods change how many calories in black chana? What if I made a dish with spices or oils? Are those calories considered too? Any advice would help a lot! I'm kinda stuck and feeling a little overwhelmed with calculations. Trying to be healthy but not sure how many calories in black chana can throw me off course!

Black chana, or black chickpeas, are indeed a nutritious addition to your diet, and knowing their caloric content can be useful if you’re tracking your intake. Generally, raw black chana contains about 300-350 calories per 100 grams, which might be why you’ve seen various numbers. Cooking methods can indeed change this slightly, but not dramatically; boiling them, for example, doesn’t usually add many additional calories unless you’re adding extra ingredients. The water absorbed during cooking reduces the caloric density somewhat because the weight increases while calories stay roughly the same. When it comes to spices and oils, yes, these will alter the calorie count of your dish. Spices themselves are typically negligible in calorie content. However, if you’re sautéing chana in oil or adding a dressing, you’ll want to factor in the extra calories from those oils. For example, a tablespoon of olive oil could add around 120 calories. So, if you’re tracking, be aware of these additions. It’s great that you’re being mindful of your foods, and black chana is beneficial due to its fiber and protein content, which can help keep you full and satisfied. Just keep an eye on those extras like oils. When calculating, using a nutrition app might help you keep better track of the entire dish’s calorie count, allowing for a more accurate assessment aligned with your diet plan.
