can we drink sugarcane juice during fever - #23622

Reyansh

I am really confuse about something and would love some advice. My little sister, who’s only 10, has been down with a fever for the past few days. We’re all worried! She’s been super weak and just lies around like a little couch potato. I remember my grandma used to say that drinking sugarcane juice during fever is good for you because it can help with energy and hydration, right? But, I don't wanna make things worse. I mean, can we drink sugarcane juice during fever? I googled it but found mixed info. Some say it’s great while others are like, no way! Plus, she's been complaining about a sore throat too. Can we drink sugarcane juice during fever when the throat is so irritated? I feel like it might be too sweet and sticky for her to handle, but I also want to do what’s best for her. Just last night, I got her to sip some clear soup, and she seemed to like it, but sugarcane juice during fever feels like a whole different thing! Should we just stick to plain water? Can we drink sugarcane juice during fever safely? Ugh, I feel like I'm going in circles! Any advice would be really appreciated, thanks all!

When dealing with a fever in children, hydration is very important, but it’s crucial to consider the specific symptoms. Sugarcane juice can be refreshing and hydrating due to its water content, and can provide a quick source of energy because of the natural sugars. However, if your sister has a sore throat, the sweetness might cause discomfort or seem too sticky, which could irritate her throat even more. It’s also important to remember that while sugarcane juice can be beneficial, it’s not a substitute for other necessary treatments and should be consumed in moderation. Offering her small sips can be a way to gauge if it agrees with her. To ensure adequate hydration, water and clear fluids like soups or broths are excellent options. They are generally gentler on the throat and provide essential fluids without excessive sugar, which is a consideration especially if she’s feeling nauseous or is picky due to her illness. While at-home care is crucial, if her fever persists or she shows signs like extreme fatigue, difficulty breathing, or she’s not able to keep fluids down, it’s vital to consult with a healthcare provider promptly for a thorough evaluation. This ensures that any underlying issues are addressed timely. Remember that managing fever involves several aspects: keeping fever-reducing medications like acetaminophen at hand if recommended, monitoring her comfort and keeping her in a cool, comfortable environment to prevent overheating are all good practices alongside maintaining hydration.
