how to use kalonji seeds for grey hair - #23953

Om

I am a bit confused about how to use kalonji seeds for grey hair. I've heard people say they can help with greying hair, which I'm kinda desperate to fix, since I just turned 35 and have noticed my first grey strands popping up. I don’t even know if it’s just stress or genetics at this point. I've tried dyes, but they irritate my scalp, plus I want something more natural. A friend mentioned using kalonji seeds, but do I just crush them up and mix with oil? Or do I need to make some paste or something? I read somewhere that you can infuse kalonji seeds in coconut oil for like a week and then apply it – does that really work? Also, should I be using it every day or just a few times a week? And what about the quantity? Like, how much kalonji seeds do I really need for it to be effective? I feel like there are so many mixed tips out there on how to use kalonji seeds for grey hair, not sure whom to trust. Some say it takes time, but how much time really? I just wanna get rid of the greys without making my hair feel like straw. Any help would be amazing!

Doctors' responses

There’s a lot of talk about kalonji seeds, also known as black cumin seeds, for addressing greying hair, although it’s important to approach these remedies with an evidence-based mindset. There is limited scientific research on kalonji seeds specifically reversing grey hair, but they have been used traditionally in some cultures for hair and scalp health. If you want to give it a try, creating an oil infusion is a common approach. You can lightly crush about one to two tablespoons of kalonji seeds and mix them with around a cup of coconut oil. Let this mixture sit for a week in a cool, dark place, allowing the seeds to infuse their properties into the oil. Afterward, strain the oil to remove the seed residue before applying it to your hair.

Application frequency can vary based on individuals’ preferences and responses. Starting two to three times a week may be a practical approach. Massage the oil gently into your scalp and hair, leave it for at least 30 minutes to a few hours before washing it out. Consistency is key, and it could take a few weeks to months to observe any changes, if they occur. Keep in mind factors like genetics, stress, and nutritional deficiencies can all contribute to greying hair, and using kalonji oil alone might not address these root causes. Make sure your diet supports hair health, including nutrients like B vitamins, folic acid, and iron, which play roles in maintaining healthy hair.

Importantly, if you notice any scalp irritation or other adverse reactions, discontinue use and consult with a healthcare professional. Also, since scalp health is crucial to managing hair quality, avoiding harsh chemical treatments and maintaining a gentle hair care routine could benefit overall hair health. While natural remedies like kalonji oil provide a more organic approach, setting realistic expectations is crucial. Hair color changes can be a natural part of aging, and while managing these changes, prioritize safe, well-rounded hair and health practices.
