how long does it take for chanca piedra to work

Kiaan

I am really worried because I've been dealing with kidney stones for the past few months, and it's been painful and frustrating. Tried all sorts of stuff, and I heard this thing called chanca piedra might help. So I got some from the health food store, and now I’m wondering how long does it take for chanca piedra to work? I’ve read that it’s supposed to break down the stones, but I’m wondering if anyone here has actually tried it and how long does it take for chanca piedra to show effects? I started taking it about a week ago and haven't noticed anything yet. Sometimes, I feel like these stones are just a permanent part of my life, and I can't take this pain any longer. I really thought chanca piedra was the answer since I've heard it can be a natural solution, but seriously how long does it take for chanca piedra to work in actual practice? I'm seriously thinking about giving up after this week if I don't see any change. I don't want to rush into surgery or anything, but I'm also a bit skeptical. Could it really be that simple? Anyone have more realistic expectations on how long does it take for chanca piedra to work? Any stories or insights would help me feel less lost right now. Thanks!

Doctors' responses

Chanca piedra, often promoted for its potential to aid in breaking down kidney stones, is a traditional herbal remedy derived from a plant commonly found in tropical areas. While some people report improvements, there isn’t a lot of rigorous scientific evidence to support its use as a reliable or universally effective treatment for kidney stones. Consequently, how quickly it may work varies significantly among individuals. If you’ve been using it for just a week without noticeable benefits, that’s not unusual. Herbal remedies might take longer to show effects, or they might not work at all for some individuals. It’s really important to manage expectations with any supplement like chanca piedra—it’s not a guaranteed cure all.

Should the pain persists or becomes severe, or if you experience symptoms like fever, difficulty passing urine, or blood in your urine, it’s imperative to seek medical attention promptly. These could be signs of complications needing urgent care. Treatment for kidney stones can vary from increased fluid intake and medications to more advanced methods like shock wave lithotripsy or surgical options. Keeping well hydrated is universally advised, as it can help pass smaller stones naturally.

If you’re considering continuing with chanca piedra, monitor your symptoms closely, stay well-hydrated, and maintain a diet low in oxalates. However, weigh this decision with caution and consider consulting with a healthcare provider who can give personalized advice based on the specific size and type of stones. It might be useful to discuss a comprehensive plan tailored to your situation that could include further diagnostic testing or intervention if necessary. Remember, the key is to avoid delaying treatments that could more effectively prevent or resolve your current situation.
