Doctors' responses

Hello

After a missed period with a negative test, repeat the pregnancy test in 5–7 days if your period still doesn’t come.

Why this happens • The withdrawal method can still carry a small pregnancy risk. • Cycles that are 30–35 days can naturally vary by a few days. • Stress, illness, travel, or hormonal changes can delay ovulation and the period.

What to do now 1. Wait 5–7 days, then repeat a home urine pregnancy test using first-morning urine. 2. If the second test is still negative and no period after 2 weeks, consult a doctor for evaluation (may include a blood pregnancy test or hormone check). 3. If severe lower abdominal pain, dizziness, or unusual bleeding occurs, seek care urgently.

Based on your dates (intercourse 13 March, test 26 March negative), a repeat test around 31 March–2 April would be appropriate.

Take care Regards

In this situation, the first thing to consider is that there could be several reasons for a missed period beyond pregnancy. Variations in menstrual cycle length can be influenced by factors such as stress, changes in weight, diet, exercise habits, or other underlying health issues, like polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) or thyroid problems. Since you had a negative pregnancy test on March 26, it’s a good idea to repeat the test in about a week. Home pregnancy tests are most reliable when taken at least one week after a missed period, as hormone levels might not be high enough to detect early on. If the repeated test is still negative and your period hasn’t arrived, consider scheduling an appointment with a healthcare provider. They might perform a blood test to definitively rule out pregnancy, and discuss other possible causes. Additionally, they can check for any signs of hormonal imbalances or other medical conditions that might disrupt your cycle. Investigating any changes in lifestyle or stress levels recently might also provide clues, as they can significantly impact the menstrual cycle. If you regularly rely on the withdrawal method, it’s worth noting that it does not guarantee protection against pregnancy as effectively compared to other contraceptive methods. Although your current concern is the missed period, consider discussing more reliable contraceptive options with a healthcare provider for better protection in the future. Meanwhile, keep an eye on any other symptoms you are experiencing that might need attention, such as unusual pain, significant weight gain or loss, or fatigue, as such signs would warrant a closer examination.
