Headaches and nausea from extended screen time can be frustrating, especially when you’re already using corrective lenses designed to reduce eye strain. First, it might be helpful to determine if your symptoms fit into a specific pattern, such as timing or certain activities that trigger them more than others. Considering migraines could be a possibility, as these are often triggered by prolonged visual stress among other factors. However, another culprit could simply be digital eye strain, sometimes called computer vision syndrome. This can occur even with the correct prescription lenses if the ergonomics of your work environment aren’t optimal or if breaks aren’t taken regularly. You might want to try the 20-20-20 rule: every 20 minutes, take a 20-second break and look at something 20 feet away. In terms of eyewear, it’s good to confirm whether your current glasses are designed for screen use and have the appropriate blue-light filtering. Another helpful measure could be ensuring that the lens prescription is up-to-date. If you haven’t had an eye exam recently, it would be wise to schedule a visit with an optometrist or ophthalmologist to rule out any changes in your vision needs. Adjustable lighting in your workspace and screen brightness settings tailored to your environment can also make a significant difference. Consider using software that reduces blue light emission from your device, especially in late hours to avoid additional strain. If migraines are suspected, it’s critical to observe other accompanying symptoms like light and sound sensitivity or aura and see if the headaches respond well to common migraine treatments. Should your symptoms persist despite adjusting these factors or if they’re severe, visiting a healthcare professional for a comprehensive evaluation is advised. There might be a need for medication or further neurological assessment to manage migraines effectively.
